Gone: A drabble

She pulled her hair back and twisted it around her fingers, “What is it?”

“You’re unsettled.”

She frowned, “Am I?”

He gave her the look. She sighed. “Yeah, maybe I am.”

“That’s never good for me.”

“Ha,” she smirked.

“No, really. This usually marks the beginning of the end.”

“For just a while.”

“Last time ‘just a while’ turned into six months,” he shifted his weight from foot to foot.

“I always come back.”

“I don’t know if I’ll be here to come back to next time.”

“I’ll chance it,” and then she was gone.

Soon afterwards, so was he.
