Ten on Tuesday: 90s Edition

ALL ABOUT THE 90′s!  Ten on Tuesday is hosted by Chelsea and this week’s questions were provided by her friend, Christine.

1. Which boy band was your favorite and your favorite song?
Jeeeez.  Favourite boy band of the 90s? Probably Hanson.  Stop judging.  My favourite song?  This one, hands down:

2. Your favorite spice girl?
This is a tough one… Ginger Spice?  Yeah.  She was a rebel.

Also, my bff and I had our first dance to Spice Girls’ Two Become One.  We were sooo in love for those 8 hours we dated.  Good times.

3. Did you ever try the orbit drink?
Yes.  Those were horrid.  The syrupy drink with the floating jelly bits in it?  Let’s not get into what drinking that was like.

4. What brand of clothing were you in to?
I had the coolest Guess jeans and an Adidas jacket…. Would get all my singlets at Au Cotton… that’s pretty much all I remember.

5. Did you watch TGIF?
I totally did!

6. What news story in the 90′s do you recall?
I really don’t know… The one that sticks out in my head is when my friend went missing.  It was weird to see the media talk about her and make assumptions.

7. List which you think had the best talent. Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, Brittney Spears, and Christina Aguilera.
Wow… I don’t know.  I think there’s a bit more depth to Mandy Moore’s talent… her music has a little more soul.  If we’re talking sheer vocal talent… Christina?  Man, it feels wrong saying that.

8. Did Marilyn Manson creep you out?
A little bit.  But then I also liked some of his music.

9. Who was your BFF?
I had a few BFFs in the 90s.  Early on it was Rhe and Ashleigh, but by the end of the 90s in was my current BFF.  He’s been my BFF for 16 years now.

10. A picture of you in the 90′s.
I went digging around and couldn’t really find any.  They must be all at my parents’.  Then I came across this one.  It’s probably 1990, but may even ben 1989.  So… close enough?

Ten on Tuesday: Random

Ten on Tuesday is hosted by Chelsea and these random questions were provided by her.

1. Who is your favorite talk show host?
Stephen Colbert.  I have the hugest nerd crush on him, I can’t help it.  I love Rove McManus.  He retired from his talk show back in 2009, but he’s actually popped up on some American talk shows since.

2. How do you style your hair on a daily basis?
I like to wash and sleep on my wash, cuz that’s how it curls the nicest.  I start off wearing it loose, but inevitably, I’ve gt to catch it and twist it up before it takes over the world.

3. If you were stuck in your bedroom for a week, what would you need in order to not go crazy?
My mobile, laptop and a few books, I’d be good.  I broke my foot two years ago and ended up spending almost two weeks in my bedroom, I survived with DVDs and my laptop.

4. What are the best non-reality shows on television?
Castle, HIMYM, New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Parks and Rec, Community, 30 Rock.

5. Do you mow your own lawn and clean your own house?
Condo fees cover the cost of our lawn care, but have to clean the house like a sucker.  I’m okay with that, cuz I am particular about how things are cleaned.  But I do hope to have a cleaning person come in every other week in the future.  My parents have had a cleaning person on and off and I know it’s a big help.

6. As an adult, what is the best part of summer?
Drinks on the patio, BBQs in friends and family’s backyards, cottage weekends, longer days, more sun.

7. If you could ask one celebrity one question, who and what would you ask?
I don’t really know…

8. Post a picture.

9. How many books do you read a year?
It depends.  Sometimes I stumble across a series and can read ten books in two weeks.  Other years, I don’t find anything too interesting and I may only read four or five books.

10. Which national chain makes the best delivery pizza?
Hmmm, I do like the generic Pizza Pizza.  They do whole grain, thin crust pizza and they don’t make it taste like crap.  But it doesn’t compare to real pizza.

Ten on Tuesday

I should be doing a hundred million things.  Instead, I’m taking a ten minute brain break to blog.  Alliteration for the win.

Ten on Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Chelsea and this week’s questions were provided by former blogger, Ashley.

1. What TV commercial do you think is the most annoying?
ALL OF THEM.  Okay, that’s extreme.  But I will say cleaning, cooking and household product commercials really irritate me.  They’re so stereotypical and sexist in their portrayal of women’s roles it makes me sick.  There is this toilet paper ad that says ‘Women LOVE to touch’, and then shows all these close ups of a woman’s hands touching an elderly person, her kids, sweaters in a clothing store, rubbing the back of her husband’s neck.  The stereotypical portrayal makes me rage like you wouldn’t believe.  Or, maybe you would, seeing how passionate I am about that ad.

2. What is the weirdest gift you have ever received?
An opened box of cereal from a guy on the street. Oh, he also would draw us pictures.

3. What is a song you thought you knew the words and then later found out you were wrong?
Hmmmm, I don’t know if there are any.  I’ve trained myself to learn and memorize songs fairly quickly, cuz of my music background.

4. What are you most looking forward to this month?
Well… My birthday’s in a few days.  So I’m looking forward to going to my favourite pub and seeing friends and family and trying hard not to think about the stress that is everything else in my life right now.   My grandmother’s 80th birthday is also this month.  That’s kinda a big deal, I reckon.  There is a long weekend later this month and that also marks the start of my office’s summer hours.  Thank god.  I also get to go back to placement, but it’s also bittersweet, as I’ll be finishing placement this month, too.  Busy May ahead.

5. What is your favorite kitchen appliance? Explain.
My coffee maker.  It makes my life blood.  Need I explain further?

6. If you could have a gift card to anywhere right now, where would you choose? Why?
A giftcard for how much? Does Air Canada do giftcards?  That or Indigo (book store) or an electronics store…or Home Depot.

7. What are your favorite pizza toppings?
This is my favourite pizza: Pineapple, green olives, red onions and BBQ sauce.  It sounds weird, but it’s amazing.

8. Name something you’re thankful for aside from obvious answers (i.e. family, job, faith, etc.).
Coffee, wine, my blackberry.

9. What was your least favorite rule growing up?
Wow, I can’t think of one.  We didn’t really have a lot of rules out side of ‘be decent human beings’.  My parents expected us to watch out for ourselves and each other, lend a hand, be respectful to others… So I don’t think this applies.

10. If you could train your pet to do one thing, what would it be? Example, “Weego” from the Bud Light commercial.
I dunno.  My dog’s pretty smart.  Haha.  I would love to be able to teach her that other dogs are allowed to walk on our street without her barking at them.  And I wish she’d learn what ‘Stop squeaking that infernal toy, I have a migraine’ means.  She’s a fairly well-behaved dog.

…Oh, maybe I’d train her to stop eating my Blackberry.  That would be good.

Ten on Tuesday

It’s Tuesday!  Which means time for Ten on Tuesday, hosted by the lovely Chelsea.

1. Would you rather give up pedicures or flat/curling irons?
I hate having people touch my feet, so I would easily give up pedicures.  And my hair is wildly curly, so I need to be able to use my flat iron from time to time to make it look presentable.

2. Does your middle name have a family meaning?
Yes, it indeed does.  I love my middle name, it’s a family name.  Then again, my whole name is a mashup of family names, as are my brothers’ names.  It’s kinda what we do.

3. Do you like to sneeze?
Umm, not really?  And I can never seem to sneeze just once.
4. Do you think kids should need to learn cursive?
I don’t know.  I was never really ‘taught’ cursive (we’re talking penmanship, not swearing, right?).  I was self-taught because my grade three teacher decided she was finished teaching us things when she wasn’t.  I’ve survived just fine not knowing how to do it ‘properly’.
5. When you go to the beach for the day, what do you take?
Chair, towel, sunscreen, water (Brittos for beaches in Oz), sunnies, a book and probably music.

6. Which decade had the best music?
80s and 90s.  Sorry, it’s a nostalgia thing for me.  Deal with it.

7. Are you a good hand-shaker?
Hi, I work in PR.  I need to be a good hand-shaker.  Just don’t touch me otherwise.  Personal space, people.

8. Do you have a go-to meal for when you are at a restaurant and you can’t decide?
It depends on the restaurant, really.

9. Do you have slippers?
Yeah, I’m always cold, feet included.  I have a pair of purple fuzzy slippers (hot, I know!) and a pair of SoftMocs.

10. Are you easily grossed out?
Absolutely.

Ten on Tuesday

I know, I know.  I haven’t posted in a while.  Let me try to distract you from that fact with…. SHINY THINGS!  No? Okay.

Well, I haven’t done a Ten on Tuesday in a while, either, and that totally counts as a post.

Ten on Tuesday is hosted by Chelsea and she provided this week’s questions, too.

1. How do you feel about April Fool’s Day?
I think it’s a little ridiculous and a lot mean.

2. Do you like birds?
I have no real feeling towards birds one way or the other.

3. How often do you wear your hair in a ponytail?
Not that often, actually.  I tend to let my hair run wild and will catch it and pin it up, but very rarely do I put it in a ponytail.  I find they do weird things to my hair and pull my curls out in a strange way.

4. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Absolutely not.  But that can’t come as a surprise, as I hardly believed in love.

5. What is your favorite appetizer?
Tomato and mozzarella salad.  Amazing.

6. What is your favorite brand of heels?
I actually don’t wear heels often.  I’ve broken my ankle twice and am generally a klutz.  I wear flats, and any flats, really, so long as they’re cute and comfortable.

7. Are you a picky eater?
Yes.  I have a passionate dislike for meat, I’m deathly allergic to shellfish, and just for fun, I go through periods of time where something I used to love, I can’t stand even the smell of it.

8. Is there a tv show you like that nobody ever talks about?
Not particularly.  I tend to watch fairly mainstream stuff.  Wait, no.  Someone on Twitter just reminded me of one.  Once Upon A Time.  That’s an awesome show.  Let’s talk about it.

9. Do you prefer hot tea or cold tea?
Tea.  Hot.  But not Earl Grey.  And not Tetley.  Gross.  I’m a huge tea snob.  I love green and white tea, I like black tea.  I like flowering teas, I prefer my tea to be loose leaf.
10. Gayle or Peeta? (If you don’t know how to answer, read The Hunger Games.)
Hands down, Peeta.

Ten on Tuesday: Random

C’est Mardi! Temps pour Dix Mardi!  Ten on Tuesday is hosted by the fantastic Chelsea at Roots and Rings and this week’s questions are provided by her.

1. What did you do this weekend?
I ran errands, got coffee, mailed a love letter, had a #winetoreach on Saturday night, strained my knee on Sunday and spent the day icing and stretching it, raided and nursed the headache from #winetoreach.

2. Do you prefer short fingernails or long fingernails?
I prefer medium length finger nails on me, as in a bit of a white tip.  I find longer finger nails are a hazard; they get caught and break on piano keys, get in the way of putting contacts in, break or get caught on sweaters.

3. What is your favorite use for Pinterest?
Nothing yet.  I’m very new to Pinterest and don’t quite get the hype yet.

4. Do you sleep with your mouth open?
I don’t think so?

5. Where did you have the best pizza you’ve ever eaten?
Capriccio Italiano.  Best pizza ever.  My fiance (at the time) and I would go there for a very late dinner on Fridays (around midnight) and sit out on the patio and watch the excitement of Northbridge.   It had the strangest art on the walls and the oddest owner who would just wander over and sit down with you.   The food was fantastic and their pizza was amazing; great sauce and fresh veggies.  Perth has some amazing restaurants.

6. What do you eat for breakfast on weekdays?
Cottage cheese and fruit or yogurt and granola.

7. Do you watch awards shows? Why or why not?
I kinda have a huge hate for awards shows.  They tend to irritate and bore me.  But I do, on occasion, still watch them.

8. Can you whistle? Snap? Curl your tongue? Bend down and touch your palms to the ground?
Whistle: Yup.
Snap: Yes, though sometimes the sound of it gives me the gweebs.
Curl my tongue: Yes.
Bend down and touch my palms to the ground: I think I can?…Yup.  May or may not have just tried it to be sure.

9. What email service do you use?
Gmail.  I like it.  But I’m not sure about this whole new privacy policy thing with the google products.

10. What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Walking my dog and playing fetch with her.  Or lounging in my adirondack chair in the sun with a book and a G&T. DON’T JUDGE.

Ten on Tuesday: Maths

While it may feel like a Monday, it is definitely Tuesday… which means time for Ten on Tuesday, hosted by the lovely Chelsea.  This week’s questions were provided by a maths-teaching friend of hers.

0.01×10^2. What was your best/worst day in math class?

There was never a best day when it came to me and maths.  Every maths class was worse than the last.  I truly, truly hated it and the second I could stop taking maths, I did. (Yes, my last maths class was in grade 10).

20×10^-1. Who was your favorite/least favorite math teacher? Why?
My favourite maths teacher was Mr. N, because he took the time with those of us that hated and didn’t get math to make sure we learned.

My least favourite math teacher would be every other math teacher I ever had.  haha

3×10^0. Is it okay to be bad at math if English is more your thing?
I think so.  I mean, my brain just does not lend itself to maths and sciences.  I find it kinda funny that I hate maths so much, but love music.  But yes, everyone’s brains work in different ways.  I think it’s important to learn maths, but I think it’s okay to be bad at it.

0.4×10^1. How does this video make you feel?
It didn’t really make me feel…anything? If it were for real, I might be a little concerned about humanity. 😉

500×10^-2. What do you like/not like about math?
My brain just doesn’t work that way, so when you get down to the really complicated stuff, I kinda zone out.  Luckily, I don’t think that’s the kind of math that people use in their day-to-day, so I think we’re okay.

0.006×10^3. What makes someone a nerd?
Oh, man.  There isn’t one thing exactly.  And then I have to explore the geek versus nerd thing again.  I think this is such a subjective thing.

7×10^0. Who is the nerdiest person you know?
Me? I dunno.  I know heaps of nerdy people, cuz I’m one myself.

80×10^-1. What is the nerdiest thing you’ve ever done?
Okay, fuck.  I’ll admit it.  I dressed up as Deanna Troi from ST:TNG. When I was ten.

0.9×10^1. Do you think GraphJam is funny?
Occasionally.

10×10^1. Have you ever used math outside of school?
Yes, but basic stuff.
